A database consists of individual records and these records consist of fields, Each field contains a particular type of information, an author name, a title etc. In many of the Ovid databases, you can divide this field list into three parts, information which comes from the author – titles, abstracts, author names, information about the location of the work – journal name, volume, issue page or descriptive information which is added about the work – subject descriptions, document types, broad subject categories for example. Within an Ovid database usually all the fields are searchable and in the majority they are also browsable. So in an Ovid database you have the greatest access into the data which is possible.

Mapping 3 Say: This is the second type of mapping, where one subject means the same as another (they are synonyms) – genetically modified plants are the same as transgenic plants. The section of the thesaurus shows why, any of the Used For entries will be redirected to “transgenic plants”.

Mapping 4 Say: This is the mapping screen for Blast Fungus, this is the third type of mapping, here I haven’t matched with a subject from the CAB Thesaurus, but this is a of subjects list which is most frequently associated with Blast Fungus, including perhaps the top choice which may be the name of the organism responsible. Choose one or more search terms, or combinations as required. These subjects are associated to the words or phrases from the thesaurus in a frequency based list.

Either by selecting multiple items with checkboxes and then choosing Add to My Projects from the top of the page, or by choosing the individual + My Projects icons, or by dragging into the My Projects area in Results Tools. 60
