無線網路發展 願景 垂直或水平整合的解決方案 過去的 (Legacy) 從今日起的 Services Services/Applications PLMN PSTN/ISDN Data/IP Networks CATV PLMN PSTN/ISDN Data/IP Networks CATV To look at where we are today - almost all networks today are what is called “vertically integrated” - single service networks where the operator offers everything from subscriber access to service creation and service delivery across a wholly-owned network infrastructure optimized for a particular service category. Each vertically integrated network incorporates its own protocols, nodes and end-user equipment/terminals, and builds on different principles and practices to ensure the reliability of a single service with different approaches to network management, guaranteed service levels, etc. This means that telephony and data service domains are still kept more or less separate. The rapid convergence between telecom and datacom will lead to a convergence of these purpose-built networks into ATM/IP based multi-service, or next-generation, networks that can provide reliable and real-time communications. This network convergence raises some fundamental issues of network characteristics and how to bridge the gap between the inherent value of reliable circuit-switching technology with the more best-effort oriented packet-switching technology. The quality of service characteristics of classic telephony networks must now migrate on to horizontally-oriented next-generation networks that can support multiple services based on ATM and IP. The aim for the so-called “horizontally integrated” networks is to have common connectivity networks, and common applications for all types of services. First, the buyers for each category are different. - See chart Second, each category addresses a Core Market Value. Core Market Values are what determine system design. Example: Mobile Access. - The value of Mobility is so high that reduced voice quality was acceptable to system designers. - The application focus was Voice. Therefore, early designers ignored system issues associated with Data. This is the Critical Point: Each category has very different service characteristics. - Those characteristics reflect the differences among the technical solutions. As this chart shows, Wireless Last Mile has classic service characteristics of wireline telcos. - Service quality must match what residential customers are used to - Service capability must exceed what copper can deliver if wireless is to be adopted Let’s look at why Wireless Last Mile is important to the industry.

15 寬頻無線 技術定義 CDMA 2000: Code-division multiple access 20000, also known as 1xRTT, is a code-division multiple access version of the IMT-2000 standard developed by the International Telecommunication Union for the third-generation mobile wireless technology. DWDM: Dense wavelength division multiplexing is a technology that puts data from different sources together on an optical fiber, with each signal carried at the same time on its own separate light wavelength. DAB: EUREKA Digital Audio Broadcasting is a multi-service digital broadcasting system for reception by mobile, portable and fixed receivers with a simple non-directional antenna. IP: The Internet Protocol is the method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. IMS: The Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem, a 3GPP standard, architecture is a service architecture that supports a wide range of services enabled by the flexibility of Session Initiation Protocol. SDH: Synchronous Digital Hierarchy is a standard technology for synchronous data transmission on optical media. W-CDMA: Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access, an ITU standard, is a third-generation mobile wireless technology that promises much higher data speeds to mobile and portable wireless devices than commonly offered in today's market.
