7 From Nobel Prize in Medicine 2010 goes to Springer author Robert G. Edwards honored for the development of in vitro fertilization The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2010 has been given to Robert G. Edwards, a Springer author. Robert Edwards has published numerous articles in Springer’s Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, as well as in the Irish Journal of Medical Science and Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences. Edwards’ achievements have made it possible to treat infertility, a medical condition afflicting more than 10 percent of all couples worldwide. His efforts in the 1950s, 60s and 70s led to the birth of Louise Brown, the world's first "test tube baby," in July Since then nearly four million babies have been born following IVF.
