The YASKAWA Electric Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of AC Inverter Drives, Servo and Motion Control, and Robotics Automation Systems.The company was founded in 1915, and its head office is located in Japan. In the late 1960s, YASKAWA Electric led the world in putting forward the concept of “mechatronics”. This concept evolved when YASKAWA combined its customers’ machinery with YASKAWA’s electric products to create superior quality and function.

Since 1915, YASKAWA has served the world needs for products to improve global productivity through Automation. Yaskawa started the mid-term business plan “Dash 25” in 2016 as the first step towards realizing the long-term business plan “Vision 2025.

Since the debut of the all-eletric industrial robot “MOTOMAN” in Japan in 1977, YASKAWA has taken a leading role in the world’s industrial robot market. Starting with arc weiding for automobile production, for which YASKAWA remian a market leader, YASKAWA robots have assumed an active role in every industrial field including welding, packaging, assembly, coating, cutting, material handling and general automation, as well as handling and transport in clean rooms for liquid crystal, organic EL displays and semiconductor manufacturing, as shown in Figure 6-1.

As one solution to the labor shortage in recent years, the scope of YASKAWA robot applications is extending to the food industry and other markets where there has been little practice in robotic automation. Recently, YASKAWA robots have expanded in appeal and presence in not only industrial but also other fields by advancing speed, accuracy improvement, response to complex movements, and strengthening of safety functions toward coexistence with humans. The development of YASKAWA robots actively participating in fields closer to humans will continue to advance in the future.
