Eli Lilly & Co lose $10 billion because of it’s drug patents expiring How to make the innovation? How to make pipelines more productive? Using large-scale combinations provide short- term relief but don’t fundamentally address the issue of innovation!

3 Gather and analyze information applicable
There major drug patents expire. Developing new products and moving them forward as quickly as possible on the thorough and mandatory approval process are the main goals. Lechleiter’s action are revaping the company’s operational structure and restructuring that involved in creating an improved product research and development center.

研發部門以5~9人組成小組或專案為單位,由較資深 的主管帶領,內有更多樣化且專業的員工,讓小組 能自己決定自己的工作分配,且員工能有一定程度 的自由 希望能夠透過讓員工在專業化的同時亦不失創新能 力。

12 Span of Control Wider spans are more efficient in terms of cost.
Larger spans of control is consistent with managers’ efforts to speed up decision making, increase flexibility, get closer to customers. So wider spans might Lechleiter use, because there are more money will be saved. Then the money can be invested in development of new product.

13 Centralization & Decentralization
As organization have become more flexible and responsive to environmental trends, it will shift toward decentralized decision making. Employee empowerment, it will gives employees more power to make decisions. It will make the company more innovative and creative to develop their new products and pipelines.

14 Formalization 若公司太過於制度化,較適合研發已完成的公司, 已經進入穩定生產的狀態。
但Eli Lilly & Co正要開始尋找方法,使產線更加的具 有生產力,以及產品的創新。 所以Eli Lilly & Co應該會採取較低的制度化,讓 employees能夠更有空間的去發揮他們的想法,加 速公司的產品創新。
