DEFINITIONS OF COMMUNICATION
Communication means sharing messages, ideas, or attitudes that produce a degree of understanding between a sender and receiver. (Philip V. Lewis 1975). In everyday usage, “communication” implies an attempt to share meaning by transmitting messages among people (Porter and Roberts, 1976, 1554).

BARRIERS TO COMMUNICATION
Individual bias and selectivity Status differences Fear and other emotional overtones Lack of trust Verbal difficulties are a frequent source of confusion and misunderstanding Information overload and lack of practice in the skills of communicating.

WAYS OF IMPROVING COMMUNICATION
Ensuring the awareness of communication problems Setting up appropriate machinery for communication Training of relevant techniques of communication

「人際關係在你手」 行為背後的意義 每個人的行為，都受一些隱藏在心中的思想所影響，這牽涉個人的立場、信念、感受和行為的動機等因素。所以，行為只是個人思想的表現，而且僅是顯露了個人思想的一小部份。但是，很多時候與人相處卻只能從這一小部份來評價他。所以我們在與人相處的時候，更要十分留意自己的言行，以便將準確的信自息帶給對方。

「人際關係在你手」 對一個主管來說，除了需要控制自己的言行，令下屬對自己信服，願意全力執行自己的指令外，還要細心觀察和分析下屬及同事的行為，盡量探求隱藏在他們行為背後的動機、立場、信念和感受，從而明白他們各種表現的原因，進而改善與他們相處的關係。

A pilot study on transformational leadership found that,
“The leader provided a model of integrity and fairness with people… He encouraged followers with advice, help, support, recognition, and openness. He gave follower a sense of confidence in his intellect, yet was a good listener. He gave autonomy to followers and encouraged their self-development” (Bass 1985:30) How about educational leaders, do they also need these qualities facing the 21st century? If “education is a people business” (Kimbrough and Burkett, 1990:181)
