Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength. All your heart: the heart is the seat of our thought, intention and feeling, it represents the totality of our whole inner being in loving God All your soul: “soul” refers to the seat of the emotions, passions, and desires. To do something with all the heart and soul means to do it with the totality of one’s thoughts, feelings, intentions, and desires. Since Yahweh along is Israel’s God, Israel must love and serve Him with, undivided devotion…serving the Lord alone without dividing one’s loyalty between Him and other gods. (Jeffrey H. Tigray, Deuteronomy, 77) All your strength: perhaps “with all your might” was added here to gi e the strongest possible emphasis, since this is the first time this requirement appears in the Bible. (Tigray, 77)

It was John Wesley’s deeply held theological conviction that human beings, having been reconciled to God and born of the Spirit, can become perfect in their love of God and neighbor. It is this perfect love unleashed in the lives of individuals that leads to the transformation of the world. This was the central vision of the Wesleyan revival; to spread scriptural holiness across the land. And it is sometimes one of the more neglected elements of our Wesleyan theological heritage. (

5 Not every love is good. Love is always determined by what is loved
Not every love is good. Love is always determined by what is loved. The person who loves money will become greedy for it; the person who loves to smoke will become addicted to smoking; the person who lusts for praise will become greedy for adulation. It is only the love for life that makes people come alive. Mutual love makes both those engaged in it happy, and the love that runs ahead to encounter the other sparks generosity and begins something new. Love for life makes life something that is living—one’s own life and the life of other people, the life we share and life on this earth. (Moltmann, The Living God and the Fullness of Life, 133)

6 Because when Christians say, “God is love,” they are associating the experience of God with this intensive experience of life, love is talked about in the singular even though it takes very different forms in differing relationships. In the double commandment of love, it is both the love of God and neighbourly love. (Moltmann, LGFL, 133)

導致個人生命的完整: order and coherence, integration vs chaos 決定與人關係的範例: loyal love in your relationships

「力」(might):擺上一切的愛 “with all your heart,” meaning with an undivided loyalty, both good and bad inclinations; “with all your soul,” suggesting a loyalty even unto death and martyrdom, since the Hebrew term nepeš can mean life—as one interpreter says, “Love him until the last drop of life is wrung out of you”; and “with all your might,” pointing to the commitment of all that one has—possessions, wealth, everything given over to God (see Hammer, Sifre, 62–64; Tigay, Deuteronomy, 77).  Patrick D. Miller, The Ten Commandments, ed. Patrick D. Miller, First edition., Interpretation: Resources for the Use of Scripture in the Church (Louisville, KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2009), 22.

9 “with all your heart,” meaning with an undivided loyalty,
“with all your soul,” suggesting a loyalty even unto death and martyrdom, since the Hebrew term nepeš can mean life—as one interpreter says, “Love him until the last drop of life is wrung out of you” “with all your might,” pointing to the commitment of all that one has— possessions, wealth, everything given over to God (see Hammer, Sifre, 62–64; Tigay, Deuteronomy, 77).
