3 本章概要 据统计，中国有170多类产品的产量位居世界第一，中国已名副其实地成为了世界“制造大国”，制造业也成为中国国民经济的支柱。可以说，世界的每一个角落都有中国制造的产品，许多中国人到国外购买纪念品，回来仔细一看还是发现“Made in China（中国制造）”。中国的产品已经打入国际市场，参与国际竞争已是不争的事实。然而，随着世界经济格局的变化，企业之间的竞争日趋白热化，中国的产品要在世界经济竞争舞台立于不败之地，在提高科技含量和产品质量的同时，还必须关注产品介绍，尤其是产品介绍的翻译，因为产品介绍某种程度上起到广告宣传和促销的作用，对扩大产品的影响和销路起至关重要的作用，粗制滥造的产品介绍翻译会误导消费者，即使是名牌产品也可能被误认为是假冒产品。可见，产品介绍翻译质量的高低同产品销售量的高低不无关系，因此，本单元主要讲述产品介绍的翻译技巧。

6 § PART ONE 了解产品介绍及产品介绍的翻译
Task I 请将课前收集的两种日常用品的产品介绍与同学分享，探讨你对目前产品介绍及产品介绍翻译的现状和看法。

7 Task II 阅读下列产品介绍并思考：什么是产品介绍；产品介绍由什么构成；产品介绍的目的是什么？

10 产品说明的概念 产品，就传统意义而言，是指具有某种形状、并具有某种实际用途的物质产品，当今的产品概念已经有所延伸，从有形的物质产品延伸到无形的服务产品、理财产品等。随着市场竞争日趋激烈，企业不仅重视产品的实用性，也重视产品的非功能性因素如款式、包装、说明、售后服务等，这些都成为如今的买方市场吸引消费者的重要因素。

11 产品的层次也从传统意义上的核心产品延伸到形式产品和延伸产品。第一层次为核心产品，就是指产品能给顾客提供的基本效用和功能；第二层次为形式产品，是核心产品所展示的外部特征，主要包括款式、质量、品牌、包装等；第三层次为延伸产品，是指顾客因购买产品所得到的全部附加服务与利益，如保证、咨询、送货、安装、调试、维修、清洁等。产品介绍随着产品概念和层次的延伸而拓展，从上述产品介绍可以看出，产品介绍囊括了各种层次产品的介绍。

12 所谓产品介绍就是指企业向消费者简单明了地描述产品，其内容包括产品的性质、特点、优势、材质、加工工艺、使用方法和注意事项等。产品介绍通常由文字、数据、表格和图片等构成。产品介绍往往需要从客户的角度出发，考虑客户的种种需求，洞察消费者的关注点，解决消费者迫切需要解决的问题，比如：“Johnson’s Baby Soothing Naturals Nourishing Shampoo is specially developed with our unique NO More Tears formula proven to be as mild to the eyes as pure water.”无泪配方正好能够满足父母对婴儿洗浴产品的需求，家长不再担心婴儿沐浴产品对其造成过度刺激。

13 许多产品介绍还会做出一定的承诺，包括产品会给消费者带来哪些好处。比如：“移动性能出色的VAIO Y21系列有着卓越的电池续航能力，标配电池的待机时间长约4小时，外出差旅或者去图书馆、咖啡厅带上VAIO Y21系列，可以让您从容应对。”这样，消费者就不用为没有电而发愁了。此外，产品介绍最好能突出利益的支持点，也就是该产品能解决的关键问题，如：“Are you always busy with work and never seem to have the time to vacuum your floors regularly? Then we have the solution for you.”这种产品能够帮助消费者解决定期清洁地板的问题，这是消费者购买该产品的原始动力。

14 产品介绍的首要目的是向消费者介绍产品的功能、性能、特征、用途、规格、使用方法及注意事项等。产品介绍可以提醒客户重视目前的某些问题及该产品如何解决这些问题；提升消费者购买产品的欲望；最终得到消费者的认同并购买产品。 本单元讲述的产品介绍翻译是广义的产品介绍，根据不同的产品类别和具体使用情况，汉语和英语都有多种表达方式，包括产品介绍（Product Description），产品质量说明（Quality Instructions），产品安装说明（Installation Instructions），产品介绍书（Manual），使用手册（Instruction Manual）、产品申购指示（Instructions for Purchase Order）等。此外，有些说明书使用专门词汇，如药品说明书可以用Instructions，Directions，Descriptions，Package Insert（或简称Insert），Leaflets，Data Sheets等。

15 § PART TWO 热身练习 Task I 请翻译药品Asverin（安嗽灵）的说明书。 1.Asverin is an entirely new and patented cough medicine. 答案：安嗽灵是一种全新的、获得专利的镇咳药。 2. Asverin being a non-narcotic, can be used as a common medicine. 答案：安嗽灵属非麻醉药，可作为常用药使用。

21 Task III 下面是某产品包装说明的翻译，请阅读并改进其英语译文。
【解析】这种包装说明的翻译应当注意译文的统一性和简洁性。原译文词汇不统一，如外标签（out box label, outer box label），句子结构也不统一，第1题用分词短语，第2题用被动句，第3题用陈述句，第4题用祈使句，译者可以根据实际情况做到相对统一。另外，这些译文中还有不少语法错误。 1. 原文：将产品放入内包装箱。 原译：Putting finished goods into inner box. 改译： 此类句子最好用祈使句。建议改为：Put the finished goods in the inner box.

22 2. 原文：所有的内包装箱在外包装箱内同一方向放置。
原译：All the inner boxes are putted in same direction in the outer box. 改译： 本句中“putted”属于误用。建议改为：All the inner boxes are placed in the same direction in the outer box.

29 【解析】 在本书第一单元我们谈到，商务英语不同于通用英语的关键之一在于其专业术语。上述五组词汇分别来自医药、机械、服装、陶瓷和灯饰行业的专业术语。产品介绍属于专业性很强的应用型文体，其向消费者传递的信息必须准确无误，清晰明白，不可有任何含糊其辞的地方，有关的专业固定词汇和专业术语可以使产品介绍具有简洁性和明晰性。可以看出，我们对这些词汇多数并不陌生，但其含义却与通用英语差之甚远，比如：Description表示“描述”，而用于药品则表示“性状”；Relief表示“减轻、安慰、救济”等含义，而用在陶瓷行业表示“浮雕”的意思。有鉴于此，产品介绍的翻译需要译者成为“杂家”，对方方面面、各行各业都要有所了解，否则，译者寸步难行。

30 Task II 请阅读下列某汽车的产品介绍及其翻译，讨论产品介绍的语言特点。

31 【解析】既然是产品介绍，就必须介绍、宣传产品的优势，所以产品介绍中一定有许多形容词或形容词短语等具有褒义的评价性词语，如“low, lower, fun”等词用于突出产品的卓越特点。

32 有些产品介绍甚至夹杂在广告中，这里就有更多的评价性词汇，如：
Where is the Wally with the mobile phone? Nokia–the easiest way to find Wally. Largest, easiest to read display. Simple one hand operation. Unique, easy to use menu system. Stylish European design. The largest European manufacturer of mobile phones. 试译为： 移动电话的“威利”在哪里？ 诺基亚——找到“威利”最简单的方法。 超大显示屏，单手操作，简便易行、独一无二的操作系统，时尚的欧式外形设计。 欧洲最大的移动电话制造商。

33 解析： 原文是诺基亚的一则广告，但其中使用了无数形容词如“largest, easiest, simple, unique, easy, stylish”等来形容该产品。“Wally”既是欧洲普遍使用的男子名，又表示“第一流的，令人喜欢的”之意，一语双关，暗示消费者该如何在普通的万千大众中寻找与众不同的第一流产品呢？那就是诺基亚。翻译采用音译，“威利”，取“威力”之意，中国消费者会联想到“威力无穷，质量上乘”之意。

35 【解析】 从这些产品介绍可以看出，非谓语动词在产品介绍中广泛使用，如动词不定式短语，英语属于“静态”语言，动词使用较少，使用非谓语动词可以避免过量使用动词，符合英语的表达习惯，可以做到言简意赅，提高语言使用效率。其他的非谓语动词包括动名词如：“Choking hazard: small parts inside, not for children under 3 years（窒息危险：内装小件，不适合3岁以下儿童）”。产品介绍中常用介词短语，
