chameleon butterfly Don’t let the world squeeze you into its mold As followers of Jesus we are called to be different/distinctive
1Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:1-2).
The renewing of our minds is an ongoing process, which we need to pursue. We need to break with the past, which may not have been an honor to God. We need to let our life be filled with the Holy Spirit, again and again.
This statue we saw this week in the cathedral of Nantes, France. It shows the apostle Peter. Remember that he denied Jesus 3 times on the day before the crucifixion. Therefore the crow is at his left foot. But he also leans on a rock with his right hand, and he has keys in his left hand. Jesus said about him: “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). Let’s look into a great passage written by Peter.
'For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. Keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats ; do not be frightened.” Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
