How to Become an Intelligent
Knowledge Worker (KW)? (1) Knowledge has to be earned. (2) “Little knowledge is dangerous”, but no knowledge is even worse. (3) Knowledge can be easily obsolete. (4) Life-long learning becomes essential. (5) Knowledge accumulation is far more important than capital accumulation. (6) Why is knowledge so valuable? — Making innovation possible. — Making problem-solving possible. — Bringing about productive results. — Saving the use of resources. — Making life more enjoyable. How to Become an Intelligent Knowledge Worker (KW)?
(7) Knowledge is power, and so is responsibility. (When ”Power is knowledge”, it becomes a disaster. ) (8) To be a smart KW (a) fully focused: Not to be bothered by “information overload”. (b) Say “No” to things of “no significance”. (c) Generous to people, but selfish to the use of “time”. (d) Highly selective in your reading and personal associations. (9) A somewhat “balanced” life: 70-80% on profession 30-20% on quality of life (10) One final reminder: to balance knowledge-sharing with wealth-sharing In Summary: Gaining knowledge is a process: — starts from learning — goes through application — makes contribution to society — receives reward and recognition Charles H. Improving Taiwan Society with Eight Ideas
by Charles H. C. Kao (1) Policy-makers should weigh the issues and events with “broad perspectives”(大格局) (2) Enhancing “Taiwan competitiveness”, not “Taiwan first”, should be top policy priority. (3) Seek a “win-win solution” for Taipei and Beijing. Confrontation is the least desirable choice for either side. (4) Prepare everyone for the “knowledge-based economy”. (5) Build Taiwan as an “open society”. (6) Promote “human dignity” and “quality of life”. (7) Learn to be a “liberally educated individual“. (8) Make Taiwan society as a “learning organization”.
