“你們死在過犯罪惡之中，[祂叫你們活過來]。那時，你們在其中行事為人，隨從今世的風俗，順服空中掌權者的首領，就是現今在悖逆之子心中運行的[邪]靈。我們從前也都在他們中間，放縱肉體的私慾，隨著肉體和心中所喜好的去行，本為可怒之子，和別人一樣。”（弗2:1-3） “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. “你們死在過犯罪惡之中” 從神看來，人不只犯罪，且是死的。 “You were dead in your transgressions and sins” From God's perspective, men are not only sinful, but also dead. 人是全然敗壞 。 Man is in total depravity.

16 甚麼是死人的需要? What does a dead man need?
死人的需要不是醫治。 There is no cure for a dead man. 死人的需要乃是生命。 A dead man needs life.

17 生命在那裏? Where is life? “然而神既有豐富的憐憫，因祂愛我們的大愛，當我們死在過犯中的時候，便叫我們與基督一同活過來，(你們得救是本乎恩).” (弗2:4-5) “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.” (Ephesians 2:1-3)
