撒 母 耳 記 下 9 1 大 衛 問 說 ： 掃 羅 家 還 有 剩 下 的 人 沒 有 ？ 我 要 因 約 拿 單 的 緣 故 向 他 施 恩 。 2 掃 羅 家 有 一 個 僕 人 ， 名 叫 洗 巴 ， 有 人 叫 他 來 見 大 衛 ， 王 問 他 說 ： 你 是 洗 巴 麼 。 回 答 說 ： 僕 人 是 。 1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake? 2And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.

And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. 4And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.

5 於 是 大 衛 王 打 發 人 去 ， 從 羅 底 巴 亞 米 利 的 兒 子 瑪 吉 家 裡 召 了 他 來 。
6 掃 羅 的 孫 子 、 約 拿 單 的 兒 子 米 非 波 設 來 見 大 衛 ， 伏 地 叩 拜 。 大 衛 說 ： 米 非 波 設 ！ 米 非 波 設 說 ： 僕 人 在 此 。 5Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. 6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

8 米 非 波 設 又 叩 拜 ， 說 ： 僕 人 算 甚 麼 ， 不 過 如 死 狗 一 般 ， 竟 蒙 王 這 樣 眷 顧 ！
7 大 衛 說 ： 你 不 要 懼 怕 ， 我 必 因 你 父 親 約 拿 單 的 緣 故 施 恩 與 你 ， 將 你 祖 父 掃 羅 的 一 切 田 地 都 歸 還 你 ； 你 也 可 以 常 與 我 同 席 吃 飯 。 8 米 非 波 設 又 叩 拜 ， 說 ： 僕 人 算 甚 麼 ， 不 過 如 死 狗 一 般 ， 竟 蒙 王 這 樣 眷 顧 ！ 7And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 8And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

9 王 召 了 掃 羅 的 僕 人 洗 巴 來 ， 對 他 說 ： 我 已 將 屬 掃 羅 和 他 的 一 切 家 產 都 賜 給 你 主 人 的 兒 子 了 。
10 你 和 你 的 眾 子 、 僕 人 要 為 你 主 人 的 兒 子 米 非 波 設 耕 種 田 地 ， 把 所 產 的 拿 來 供 他 食 用 ； 他 卻 要 常 與 我 同 席 吃 飯 。 洗 巴 有 十 五 個 兒 子 ， 二 十 個 僕 人 。 9Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. 10Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11 洗 巴 對 王 說 ： 凡 我 主 我 王 吩 咐 僕 人 的 ， 僕 人 都 必 遵 行 。 王 又 說 ： 米 非 波 設 必 與 我 同 席 吃 飯 ， 如 王 的 兒 子 一 樣 。

As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons. 12And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.

13So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet.

God is a KIND God: Again, one of our texts for today, David asks in 2 Sam. 9:3, “To whom can I show GOD’S KINDNESS?”9:1大衛問說、掃羅家還有剩下的人沒有、我要因約拿單的緣故向他施恩。 Isaiah 54:8b, “…but with everlasting KINDNESS I will have compassion on you, says the LORD your Redeemer.” 54:8我的怒氣漲溢、頃刻之間向你掩面、卻要以永遠的慈愛憐恤你．這是耶和華你的救贖主說的。 3. truth about God : (1) for one reason or another many people, Christians included, have a difficult time believing that God is really a kind God; (2) to call God “kind” does not mean that God is soft” Note here Romans 11:22, “Consider therefore the KINDNESS and STERNNESS of God: STERNNESS to those who fell, but KINDNESS to you, provided that you continue in his KINDNESS.” What a combination—God is both kind and stern! 11:22可見 神的恩慈、和嚴厲．向那跌倒的人、是嚴厲的．向你是有恩慈的．只要你長久在他的恩慈裏．不然、你也要被砍下來。

What can we learn about kindness from our text of today, 2 Sam. 9?
1. Kindness looks for opportunities to express itself. 2. Kindness is never prejudiced or selective. 3. Kindness gives liberally and extravagantly. 4. Kindness is directed at those most in need. 5. Kindness takes the initiative in meeting the need of somebody else. 6. Those who have experienced God’s kindness most likely will be the persons who are ready to extend a similar kindness to others.

Questions for discussion in follow-up to the sermon:
1. Give your own definition of kindness. What does it mean to be kind? 2. Why do you think the Bible so often speaks of “showing” kindness? 3. Share a story in which you were the recipient of somebody else’s kindness. 4. Share a story in which you were kind to somebody. 5. Why do you think some Christians have a hard time believing that God really is a kind God? 6. Do you think there is any difference between people just naturally being kind or doing kind things, and the kind of kindness that the Holy Spirit supernaturally produces in the life of a follower of Christ?
