2 Introduction 　　The World Expo will be held by China between 1 May 2010 and 31 October 2010, with its venue located at the city centre of Shanghai and between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge along both sides of the Huangpu River. More than 200 countries and international organisations participate in the exhibition, which uses the theme “Better City, Better Life” to explore the different facets of urban development.

Questions for Reflection What impacts does China’s organisation of this exhibition have on the enhancement of overall national strength, the overall development of the country and the role played in regional affairs? To what extent and at what levels does the Expo promote the economic, political and cultural exchanges of different countries? How the manifestation of global citizenship can be achieved by Chinese people during Expo? With the organisation of the World Expo, Shanghai has made quite a lot of changes. What impacts does the sustainable development of Shanghai and even the whole China have on the environment, economy and society? How do the authorities stirke a balance?
