英国议会大厦及其附属钟楼,俗称大笨钟,是伦敦数一数二的代表性建筑。准确来说,大本钟指的是时钟塔内超过13吨重的大钟。为纪念英国女王伊丽莎白二世女王登基60周年,英国决定将“大本钟”钟楼更名为“伊丽莎白塔”。大本钟报时精确,全靠巨大钟摆上的一叠硬币装置。二战时炸弹摧毁了下议院会议厅,钟楼幸免遇难,大本钟的钟声依然准时响起。每当钟面上方被光照亮时,民众便知道议会正在召开会议。

伦敦最值得参观的两个教堂之一,附近为伦敦的金融区The City。圣保罗教堂是巴洛克风格建筑的代表,其圆形屋顶尤其壮观,是世界第二大圆顶教堂,英国第一大教堂。英国著名建筑师Sir Chris Wren呕心沥血45年才全部建设完成。1981年英国王子查尔斯与戴安娜王妃的盛大婚礼曾在此举行。爬上教堂的271级台阶可以登上顶端,俯瞰伦敦。还可以在教堂的咖啡厅享受英式下午茶。

Mr. White: I’m afraid we can’t. Look at the guide book. Neither Tower Bridge nor St Paul’s Cathedral is open tomorrow/ On Sundays. But both Hyde Park and the British Museum are open. We can go to either Hyde Park or the British Museum.

13 Tom: Let’s go to Hyde Park.
Mr. White: But I’m not very sure about the way to get there. Can you tell us the way to Hyde Park, dear? Mrs. White: From the tube station, turn left. Go straight along Park Lane. Then turn right into Bayswater Road. Hyde Park is on the left.

14 Tom: Let’s go to the British Museum.
Mr. White: OK. But I’m not very sure about the way to get there. Can you tell us the way to the British Museum, dear? Mrs. White: Sure. From the tube station, turn left. Go straight along Evergreen Street. Then turn right into Campus Road. The British Museum is on the left./ opposite the University of London.
