威斯敏特信条 Westminister Confession of Faith 在1643年,查理士王(Charles)当政之时,当时的议院的议员有许多是清教徒(他们被称为清教徒,是因为他们热衷与正统的神学教义与敬虔的敬拜)。 这群清教徒是深受改教家加尔文神学的影响。他们期盼重整英国教会,于是在威斯敏特大教堂召开了一个大型的议会。
这议会中包括121位牧师,30位议院议员,及8位苏格兰代表。大家则一致认同改教家加尔文的观点,并否定罗马天主教及反对预定论的阿民念派。 经过三年的讨论,议会于1646年12月完成了《威斯敏特信条》,写出教会应当认信的教义。信条的内容是完整、精确、简洁、平衡的,因为每一个句子都经过小组的讨论及长久的公开的辩论。
这信条后来也影响了苏格兰的教会。之后也随着一些清教徒移民到美国,而成为了许多长老会的主要信条。此信条是加尔文神学,清教徒神学的结晶,共有三十三章,其特色有下列几点: 信条包含有关圣经、上帝、世人、基督、救赎、教会及末世的教导。
身为改革宗的教会之一,我们接受《威斯敏特信条》为我们所认信的告白。 未来的长老与执事们都必须认信 《威斯敏特信条》的整体系统中的教义system of doctrines。此信条的权威永远必须降伏在圣经的权威之下。

圣经证明了以色列无法遵守上帝透过摩西给的西乃山上之约。世人(罪人)无人能守住上帝约中的律法。 (1)耶稣为我们完全守住了前约。 (2)耶稣为我们承担了违背前约所带来的咒诅与刑罚 (3) 耶稣把新约(神向亚伯拉罕和祂“后裔”立约的应许福份)白白赐下给了我们。
