2. Spirit of Christ’s condemnation. 2. Spirit of Christ’s condemnation. B。 (15:2-5)。 B. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. The church sent them on their way,…they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders,to whom they reported everything God had done through them. Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said,The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses” (15:2-5).

2. Spirit of Christ’s condemnation. (10) ” E. Disagreement. Between Paul and Barnabas(15:36-41). (1)Barnabas took Mark. (2) Paul chose Silas. F. Desertion. “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!”(Gal.1:6-9).
Legalists are wolves in sheep clothing. Judaizers: Seventh Day Adventists. Traditionalists: Mennonites and Amish.
3. Spirit of Christ’s counsel. A。 (1:10)。 The good news of salvation through faith in Christ is the most important message in the world. But now this message was being attacked, and Paul was out to defend the truth of the gospel. A. Approval of God. “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ”(1:10).
3. Spirit of Christ’s counsel. (12) B。 (1: 13-17)。 B.Calling by God.“For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.I was advan-cing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extre-mely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when God,who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles,my immediate res-ponse was not to consult any human being. I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus”(1:13-17).
3. Spirit of Christ’s counsel. (12) D。 (2:11-13)。 C. Acceptance by Apostles. “They recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised”(2:7). D. Confrontation with hypocrisy. “When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray”(2:11-13).
3. Spirit of Christ’s counsel. (12) E。 (3:5-6)。 E. Salvation by grace through faith. “So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified”(2:16b;3:1-2). F. Growth by grace through faith. “So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit And work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness”(3:5-6).
4. Spirit of Christ’s challenge. A。 (6:11-18)。 Don’t choose to live under the law. Choose to live in the Spirit. A. I have been set free by Christ.I am no longer under bondage to the law (5:1-12). B. I need something/someone to control my life from within. That someone is the Holy Spirit(5:13-26). C. Through the Spirit’s love. I have a desire to live for others, not for self(6:1-10). D. This life of liberty is so wonderful. I want to live it to the glory of God;for He is the One making it possible(6:11-18).
There are traditions for a month following childbirth, following a special diet, and observing various taboos to protect the body from exposure to the “wind”. Mother-in-law says, “Don’t eat this or that.” Mother says, “Don’t touch water.” Older sister says, “Don’t wash your hair.” Younger sister says, “Don’t take a shower.” But some are really unscientific.
(8:32)。 There are also some traditions for becoming or being a Christian. “Don’t do this or that.” But some are legalistic and really unbiblical. So, Paul comes to the end of his letter; and he closes just the way he began: “Grace…to you!(1:3). “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen” (6:18).It is grace, not law;freedom, not bondage. “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ”(Jn.1:17). “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”(8:32).
