3 Joe Sanders has the most beautiful garden in our town
Joe Sanders has the most beautiful garden in our town. Nearly everybody enters for 'The Nicest Garden Competition' each year, but Joe wins every time. Bill Frith's garden is larger than Joe's. Bill works harder than Joe and grows more flowers and vegetables, but Joe's garden is more interesting. He has made neat paths and has built a wooden bridge over a pool. I like gardens too, but I do not like hard work. Every year I enter for the garden competition too, and I always win a little prize for the worst garden in the town!

Nearly everybody enters for 'The Nicest Garden Competition' each year, but Joe wins every time. 乔.桑德斯拥有我们镇上最漂亮的花园. 几乎每个人都参加每年举办的 "最佳花园竞赛" , 而每次都是乔获胜. 形容词与副词的比较级  1) 规则变化 单音节词和少数双音节词,加词尾-er,-est来构成比较级和最高级。 1.构成法原级比较级最高级一般单音节词未尾加-er, -est tall taller tallest 2.以不发音的e结尾的单音词只加-er –st nice nicer nicest 3.以一个辅音字母结尾的闭音节单音节词,双写辅音字母,加-er,-est big bigger biggest 4.以辅音字母+y"结尾的双音节词,改y为i,再加-er,-est busy busier busiest 5. 少数以-er,-ow结尾的双音节词未尾加-er,-est clever/narrow cleverer/ narrower cleverest/ narrowest 其他双音节词和多音节词,在前面加more,most来构成比较级和最高级 important/ easily more important/ more easily most important/ most easily

14 通过比较级和最高级表示否定意义 英语中的形容词和副词有比较级和最高级两种形式。这两种形式除了分别表示两者之间和两者以上之间的比较外,还可用来表示否定意义。这种用法主要见于:
1.know better than+不定式。这种结构意为“不至于”: She knows better than to go alone on such a night. 在这样的夜晚,她不至于连不宜单独外出也不知道。 know better than to do sth.的含义是be wiser, better informed, or more sensible than to do or believe sth. 以此类推,下列三句有类似意义,如: I am wiser than to believe that. 我不至于蠢到竟然相信这件事。 He is more experienced than to do such a thing. 他比较有经验,不至于做这样的事。

15 2.more than…can。这种句型形式上是肯定,实际上有否定含义
The boys in the street have become very insolent and it is more than flesh and blood can bear. 街上的男孩变得非常无礼,到了人所不能忍受的地步。 The beauty of the place is more than I can describe. 那地方美得无法形容。 This is more than I can tell. 这我简直不懂。 He has bitten off more than he can chew. 他承担了力所不及的事。

16 3.用the last,the least等最高级形式表示强烈的否定意义
He would be the last man to say such things. 他决不会说这样的话。 This is the last place where I expected to meet you. 我万万没有想到会在这儿碰上你。 That was the least of his worries. 那可是他最不担心的事情。
