24 Keep aspects of functioning nature in greenways near where people live, no matter how urban the area. Give people access to nature and recreation in greenways and thereby facilitate social interaction. Reclaim postindustrial and other degraded areas as greenways and thereby serve residents and accommodate nature process while restoring the land. Link diverse neighborhoods with a greenway to encourage social interaction and promote environmental justice. As a complement to metropolitan greenways to enhance water quality protection or other greenway functioning within the metropolis. Similarly, avoid sending exacerbated floodwaters or other problems downstream of the greenway. (Hellmund & Smith, 2006)
