4 缺碘症 IDD 1994年，國際同濟會與聯合國兒童基金會合作，募得將近美金一億元 這筆募款現正在超過103國推動消滅缺碘症工作
今年，8000萬名發展中國家的兒童將免受缺碘症之苦 公認為20世紀最偉大的公共衛生成就之一

5 母嬰破傷風(MNT) 每年奪走59,000名新生兒生命；母親也可能死亡 每9分鐘奪走一名新生兒生命
主要對象是地球上最貧困、缺乏醫療資源的婦女兒童

6 母嬰破傷風死亡的首要原因 在缺乏醫療地區中死亡率高達 100% 缺乏或有限的疫苗接種及產前照護服務 有限或缺乏安全接生服務

要消滅母嬰破傷風需要更多全球關注；國際同濟會已經與一群領袖組織及全球公衛相關組織合作，關注這項議題。 同濟會可以在消滅母嬰破傷風工作上扮演臨門一腳的角色，協助仍受威脅的38個國家，消滅惡疾。 照顧兒童·無遠弗屆

Mothers and babies are dying, but there is a solution. • MNT is extremely preventable • Three doses of a 60-cent vaccination can protect mothers, who pass their immunity to their future children • Three doses of TT will give protection of a minimum of five years against tetanus; it can even go up to 10 years. • Babies born to immunized mothers will have protection for the first two months of life. • Promoting clean birthing practices around the world • When women learn about maternal health and are vaccinated for tetanus, they become empowered to take control of their wellbeing and that of their children.

Who Suffers From it? 38 39 countries remain at risk of MNT. Most mothers dying of tetanus are in North America (Haiti), Africa, Europe (Turkey) and Asia. They often live in remote areas with little access to healthcare. Those who die of tetanus are not dying just because of the disease. They are dying because they are the poorest people in the world with the least access to health services, and cannot receive treatment. MNT sufferers are not served by anyone because they are too remote, too poor, and too invisible to the world.
