Robots are used everywhere from work to home. These machines can do work too dangerous for humans, help around the house, or can be used just for fun. Unit1 Introduction of robot 2 Part2 Types and application of robot Robotics is a rapidly growing field, as technological advances continue. Robots can now be found in homes as toys, vacuums, and as programmable pets. Today robots are an important part of many aspects of industry, medicine, science, space exploration, construction, food packaging and are even used to perform surgery. There are many types of robots, such as : mobile robots, industrial robots (manipulating), service robot, educational robot, modular robot, collaborative robots, etc, as shown in Figure 1-2 and 1-3. They are used in many different environments and for many different uses. Robots have replaced humans in performing repetitive and dangerous tasks ,which humans prefer not to do, or are unable to do because of size limitations, or which take place in extreme environments such as outer space or the bottom of the sea. All in all, Robots can be used in two categories of job: Jobs which a robot can do better than a human. Here, robots can increase productivity, accuracy, and endurance. Jobs which a human could do better than a robot, but it is desirable to remove the human for some reason. Here, robots free us from dirty, dangerous and dull tasks.
