中國的祭祀上帝 中國自夏朝 (2205 B.C.) 到清末 (1911 A.D.) 每年都由皇帝主持 "祭天" 之禮,
內中有獻祭,以牛為祭牲. 亦有祈禱, 祈求上天, 赦罪賜福. 通常是在冬至 12月22日那天舉行的. 中國 "大明會典" 中記載了很多祈禱文.

"Of old in the beginning, there was the great chaos, without form and dark. The five planets had not begun to revolve, nor the two lights to shine. In the midst of it there existed neither form nor sound. You, O spiritual Sovereign, came forth in Your sovereignty, and first did separate the impure from the pure. 在創造之初，一切都是混沌黑暗， 五顆行星尚未運轉，兩個光擊也未照亮， 在這當中，既無聲響也無形體， 惟有主權的神，出來判斷清濁之分， 你立了天、立了地、立了人， 使天地萬物生生入席。
