2 The Inner Sense Theory 1. 內省是一種perception，perceptual perception可做為 model來理解內省。 2. 內省狀態和object之間是causal relation，不是形上學上 直接的關係。 The core thesis is that introspection is a causal process, and introspective beliefs qualify as knowledge because they are appropriately linked to the mental states they concern. 3 The Inner Sense Theory 內省作為Self-scanning：有input(mental state)和 output(introspection state, attributed belief) 外在論，如果因果過程是可靠的，產生的信念大部分為 真。 把內省當成知覺的好處 1. a unified treatment of empirical knowledge Ex: 關於心靈心智狀態的物理論解釋。內省狀態就等同於某 種神經狀態。 2. provides a basis for an account of consciousness

INS和ACQ的不同處 1.形上學上的不同：the relation between the introspective state and the state that is introspected as mediated by a causal process 2.知識論上的不同：ACQ是internalism，INS是externalism。 3.內省的主觀感受上(phenomenology of introspection)的差異： ACQ對心智狀態的直接察覺就有某種主觀感受。 Armstrong: 主 觀感受是伴隨的，碰巧的偶然的，不提供心智狀態的nature， 也不會提供證成的理由。Defines mentality in dispositional term。

7 Higher order perception
ACQ: 沒有無意識的痛覺。 Arms: 可以有痛，但沒有 察覺。Conscious state要 有mental state和對這個 state 的introspection。 Ex: driving on autopilot 對紅燈的perception是 unconscious。 Flickr，作者：Pauldc。

Introspection involves a faculty: an attention mechanism or internal scanner that evolved to detect mental states. 這個理論有經驗的 成分。 Armstrong: deny there is an organ of introspection Ex: 植物人和locking syndrome 的區別
