10 Writing Lead-in: There are l lot o famous works in the world. We can’t read all of them, but we can get the general ideas of them by reading the summary of them. Now let’s read two summaries of famous works on P.28 and finish the exercises below it.

11 Writing Group work: Work in groups and choose a well-known Chinese story or film and discusses it. Then write a summary. Here are some tips on how to write a successful summary:

12 Writing tips: Write the title of your story or film on the first sentence; Keep your summary as short as possible; Check the summary for spelling errors and other mistakes; Include “where the story is set”, “when it’s set”, “who the main characters are”, “what happens” and “how the story ends”.

Sample Writing A World Without Thieves Chinese director Feng Xiaogang’s New Year film “A World Without Thieves” has been on for a period. It’s Feng’s sixth New Year film since the first one in 1997. The story takes place on a train. It is about two groups of thieves and a country boy. One group is moved by the boy and tries to protect the boy from being stolen.

Andy Lau has a hard time being ugly in the movie, He plays very well, so does Rene Liu. Ge You keeps his special humor in the film. What’s more, the country boy plays naturally.
