The connotative meaning, or the associative meaning, of an English word derives from the emotion that it may arouse in the people. It has to do with such primary factors as the age, gender, social status or educational background of the speaker, the social setting where the word is used, or the linguistic context where the word occurs.

Key word repetition (“重复译法”) is a special form of “adding words when necessary”. It is concerned with the repetition of the key word in an English sentence mainly for the purpose of clarification, stress or rhetoric.
