Mid-Autumn festival history
Important holidays Start Fixed day Popular Time Line (year) The mid-autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. At this time, the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Inspired by this rare, beautiful moonlight, many activities and celebrations are held under the full moon. This celebration is called the Mid-Autumn Festival. People express the best wishes of family reunion and the name “Reunion Festival” is also used. Legend also goes on to say that the Mid-Autumn festival is the ideal time to harvest the summer’s crops. Offerings of food are placed on an alter as gifts to the God of the Earth. This holiday is of equal importance as the New Year celebration. It is second biggest holiday, the first being the Chinese New Year.
