6 《論俗語》( De vulgari eloquentia ）
但丁首先指出“俗語”與“文言”的分別，並且肯定了 “俗語”的優越性： 應該小心謹慎地把字篩過，把最好的字收集在一起。這 就是但丁所說的”光輝的俗語”— 針對俗語的使用在詩歌中，他又把風格分為四種： (1)“平板無味的”，即枯燥的陳述； (2)“僅僅有味的”，即僅做到文法正確 (3)“有味而有風韻的”，即見出修詞手段 (4)“有味的，有風韻的而且是崇高的”，即偉大作家所特 具的風格。這最後一種是但丁所認為最理想的

中世紀文學的最高成就 由《地獄》 《煉獄》 《天堂》三部份構成 劇中人物均有現實依據，性格鮮明
