Presentation on theme: "Can you tell me what to do if I want"— Presentation transcript:

1 Can you tell me what to do if I want
to lose weight? What kind of food can help me build my muscles and get stronger? My child hates eating green vegetables, what will happen to his health if so? What should we eat to make our teeth and bones strong? 5. Should we buy any supplements to keep healthy?

2 T: Do you often go to Mc Donald’s?
S1: Yes. T: How often do you eat there? S1: Twice a week. T: What do you like to eat there? S1: Hamburgers / Crisps / Fried chicken legs / Coca Cola. T: They’ll do no good to your health, because they are high in fat, sugar and salt, which will cause heart illnesses, weight problems and bad teeth. You should not eat too much junk food. T: Do you like green vegetables? S2: Not very much. T: You had better eat more, because it is rich in fibre, which will help you digest food.

3 When you give advice or your opinion to someone,
you can use “had better” or “had better not”. When you are trying to advise someone about what to do or what not to do, you can use “should / ought to” or “should not / ought not to”.

4 * You’d better go to school today.
Which is right? * You better go to school today. * You’d better go to school today. ( You had better go to school today.) 在口语、非正式的写作或演说中,had better 中的had 可以省略,所以You better go 是可以接受的。 在正式或学术文章中,我们不建议使用 had better 或 better。

5 应该这样写: You should go to school today. You ought to go to school today. (在此,should / ought to 的意思相同,都是表示建议、 劝告的 “应该”。) Had better 的意思与should 和 ought to 相近,但带有 警告或威胁会有不良后果的意味。 Had better 是表示一种现在或将来的情况。
