2 Paragraph 1:  Some common things found around your house… 原句為Some common things (that are) found around your house 關係代名詞省略後，關代所引導之子句的動詞必須改為分詞片語：N + V­ing或N + V­en。例： ► The man talking over there is from England. 　 The man who is talking over there is from England. ► The box painted black looks heavy. 　 The box that is painted black looks heavy.

take…for example 以…為例 = take …as an example add + N + to + N

4 子句做know的受詞。 ② 此為使役動詞的句型S + make + O + V
 However, most people don’t know that there’s another thing warm water can do─ make a tangerine taste less sour! ① that在此為關係代名詞，其所引導的 子句做know的受詞。 ② 此為使役動詞的句型S + make + O + V 。make為使役動詞，後面接原形動詞 taste。 ► Sad movies always make me cry.

此為it + be + adj. + to V的句型。it為虛主詞，真正的主詞為後面的不定詞。  impress 人 with 事物

6 a few 一些，幾個 a few用來修飾可數名詞的複數形。 party. 比較：
形容可數名詞 a few + 可數名詞　一些，幾個… (有肯定含意) few + 可數名詞 只有幾個… (有否定含意) a great number of + 可數名詞 很多 ► I have a few friends in this town. ► Greg is not popular. He has few friends. ► There were a great number of people joining this party.

7 a little + 不可數名詞 一些------- (有肯定含意)
形容不可數名詞 a little + 不可數名詞 一些 (有肯定含意) little + 不可數名詞 只有幾個---(有否定含意) a large amount of + 不可數名詞 (很多) ► Don’t worry. We still have a little time. ► The seriously ill man only has little hope. ► Bill made a great amount of money by writing computer programs.

8  much adv. …得多，遠遠 much、even及far皆可用來
修飾形容詞及副詞的比較級。 ► Jeremy runs much faster than any of us.

9 Paragraph 3:  How easy it is to improve the taste! 本句為how引導的感嘆句 It is very easy to improve the taste.

10  If your friends…, show them how it works.
 if conj. 如果表達與現在事實相反或者不可能 發生的事情時，if引導的假設句時態 用過去式， 若是表達有可能發生的情況時，則用 現在式。故課文中if所引導的句子時態 為現在式。

11 在此作受詞補語，修飾受them 間接問句的句型為 「疑問詞 + S + V」 ► We know what David likes.

12  The tangerine tastes better than it did before because the warmth of the water makes it seem less sour. 本句中的did等於tasted。由於前面 已經提過taste，再次提到時，為 避免重複，以助動詞did代替。

13 seem (似乎) 的其他用法  seem + adj. ► The winner of the race seems very excited.  seem + like + N ► The man seems like an American. seem + to V ► Therapy dogs seem to be helpful to the sick and elderly people. It seems that therapy dogs are helpful to the sick and elderly people.

14 Paragraph4:  If your friends are still not impressed by the little tip on making a tangerine more delicious, try this one: use a banana peel to polish your leather shoes. ① 此為make + O + OC (adj.)的用法， 其他的及物動詞有keep、find、feel、 leave等。 ② one是代名詞，可代替單數名詞與限 定詞中的指示詞(this、that等)直接連 用。

15 不能與one連用的限定詞包括所有格代名詞(my、his、its等)、量詞(some、several、a few、both、a number等)和不定冠詞(a)。

a pair of表示「一雙、一副、一件(褲子)」。要計算不可數名詞或成雙出現的名詞時，可使用計量詞。 a pair of glasses/pants/scissors。  Well, if you are hungry, go ahead and eat it. well interj. 嗯，那麼，喔… 用於表達繼續說話，或者話題改變。

21  Just remember to keep the peel, so you can use it to shine your shoes.
① just adv. 僅，只 ► Today I just want to relax and sleep. ② remember + to V 記得要去做…(事情未做) ► Chris remembered to send the letter to Emily. remember + to V 記得要去做… (事情未做，但記得要去做) remember + V-ing 記得已做… (事情已做，且記得) ► Please remember to turn off the light before you leave the room. ► Helen remembered turning off the computer.

(事情未做，且忘記去做) forget + V-ing 忘記已做… (事情已做，但忘記) ► Ann forgot to hand in her homework. ► Sue forgot closing the window. so conj. 因此 ► Lisa turns on the desk lamp, so she can read.

23  Rub the inside of the peel all over the shoes… all over 遍布，處處
額 外 補 充 all over也有「完全結束」之意。 ► After a big fight, the couple broke up, their relationship is all over.

before在此為介系詞，表示「在…之前」，故後接V­ing。

25  Tannin is a special chemical (which is) usually used to tan animal hides into leather.

26  …, you’ll discover that your shoes will shine more brightly than ever before.
your shoes will 做discover的受詞。  shine more brightly than ever before為副詞比較級的句型

27 Paragraph 6: seem like + N look like + N

28  However, when you do understand it, you will realize that science is something not just for the laboratory, but for life.  do/does/did用於肯定句時，表示強調。 ► I do love you.  not…but…意為「不是…而是…」， 用於連接有相同的詞性或對等的結構 ► Kelly is not a teacher but a writer.  be…, not…意為「是…而不是」 ► Kelly is a writer, not a teacher.
