II. Background An English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon“(艾冯河畔诗人). His surviving works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

英汉词汇对比特征及翻译 从对比语义学角度分析中英文的词汇,它们之间存在四个基本特征(谭载喜,2000):词汇耦合、词汇并行、词汇空缺、词汇冲突。

1.词汇偶合 人类生活在同一物质世界里,自然生活条件基本上是相同或相似的,对自然界的认识也有相同之处。因此,汉语和英语中存在不少选词、用词上的相同之处。双语词典正是基于这样的共性的基础之上编写的。 如:water 和汉语中的“水”是对应的词 a glass of water 一杯水 clean water 干净水 water pollution 水污染

2. 词汇并行 操不同语言的人因为生活在不同的地域和气候环境下,同一个概念可能用不同的语言来描述,这种情况就是词汇或表达上的并行。
e.g 汉 英-- 壮如牛 strong as a horse 胆小如鼠 timid as a rabbit 蠢如猪 stupid as a goose 挥金如土 spend money like water
