Origin of the name 大阪是日本人口第三多的城市，也是大阪都市圈和京阪神大都市圈的中心城市。大阪在古代多稱為大坂，而大坂一詞最早出現在室町時代。1496年，有文獻記載本願寺八世蓮如曾在攝州東成郡生玉之莊內大坂修建寺院，是為大坂一詞首次出現在文獻中。但在江戶時代，大阪這一名稱已不少見。明治時代之後，已大多使用大阪。
