3 could的用法 1、could属于情态动词，本身具有各种意义，在具体的句子中意义有所不同。
2、情态动词不能单独作谓语，只能和动词一起构成谓语。 3、情态动词没有人称和数量的变化。 4、表示说话人的语气和情感。

4 could的用法 1、表示能力（could是can的过去式）。 如： Could you speak English then?
那时候你会说英语吗？ We were sure that he could do the work. 我们肯定他能做这项工作。 He said he couldn’t follow me. 他说他跟不上我。 Many of us can use the computer now, but we couldn’t ten years ago. 我们大多数人现在会使用电脑了，但十年前不会。

5 could的用法 2、表示许可 （1）对于现在和将来的“许可”，若表示请求允许（即请求别人允许自己做某事），可用could或can，这里的could并不表示过去而是表示现在，只是语气较委婉。如： Could I come in? 我可以进来吗？ Could I use your pen? 我可以用你的钢笔吗？ (注：此类句型的答语不用could,而用can。) Could you tell me how to get to the airport? 你能告诉我怎样去机场吗？

6 could的用法 2、表示许可 （2）对于过去的许可，若表示过去一般性允许（即表示某人随时都可以做某事），则用can的过去式could。如：
When I lived at home, I could watch TV whenever I wanted to. 我住在家里时,想什么时候看电视就可以什么时候看。

7 could的用法 3、表示推测 could可用于对现在或将来的推测。如： We could go there in summer.
今年夏天我们可能要去那儿。 You could be right, but I don’t think you are. 你可能是对的，但我并不认为你是对的。 The plane could be delayed by fog. 飞机可能会因雾晚点。 It couldn’t be true. 那不可能是真的。

8 could的用法 4、有时could 与形容词的比较级连用，强调某人或某物不可能再更多地具有某种属性。如：
You couldn’t be more wrong. 你真是大错特错。 I couldn’t be happier. 我简直是幸福极了。

10 can/could用法的共同点： 1、都表示具备的能力，指现在、过去无论什么时候想做就能做到的能力。
could表示过去的能力，can表示现在或将来的能力。 如：Can you speak English? Could you speak English then? 2、在否定句和疑问句中，都表示猜测语气。 can表示猜测的可能性要多些，而could表示猜测的可能性要小、轻些。

如：Can I use your bicycle? Could I use your bicycle? （后句较前句语气要委婉。）
