Syntactic markers, like nouns(countable, uncountable, singular, plural), verbs (transitive, intransitive), adjectives, etc., are categorized into such different classes based on their grammatical functions in English sentences.

In other words, the context,built up by the words prior to or following the word, can often provide clues as to what the word means. Syntactic marking interplays with semotactic marking in the specification of the meaning of an English word.

For example, such English pronouns as possessive pronouns (e.g. my, his, her, etc.) (物主代词), reflexive pronouns (e.g. myself, yourself, himself,etc.) (反身代词) and relative pronouns (e.g. that, which, when, etc.) (关系代词) do not exist in Chinese. English pronouns are also used more frequently than their Chinese counterparts.Therefore, when English is being translated into Chinese, it is in some cases necessary to leave out some pronouns.
