1. What types of bullying do you know about? Physical hitting, tripping, stealing and hair pulling Social telling other kids not to be friends with someone Verbal threats, teasing, hurtful comments, name-calling Cyber mean texts on the Internet, prank calls ( 骚扰 电话 ) on phones

2. Why do some students bully? Some students might bully because they think it’s no big deal, or that bullying is fun, or that bullying makes them cool, or simply because they are just looking for attention.

Answer the questions. 1. According to the author, what does the nationwide program require schools to do? It requires schools to create a hotline for students to report bullying incidents and action plans for serious incidents.

2. According to the author, why do some students bully? Because bullying makes them the center of attention and feel powerful and popular. Answer the questions.

Question for further thought: If you get bullied or witness bullying at school, what will you do? Talking to someone about being bullied or doing something for a student who gets bullied. 3. What are the author’s suggestions on how to deal with bullying? Answer the questions.

What we should do is to stand up for that student and let the bullies know what they are doing is wrong. 我们需要支持那个被欺负的同学,让那些恃强 凌弱者知道自己的行为是错误的。

For one reason, it makes them the center of attention. Other students may find the situation comical and laugh, which makes the student feel powerful and popular. 有一个原因是这种行为使欺凌者成为关注的焦 点。其他学生可能觉得别人被欺负是一件很滑 稽、很好笑的事情。这更会让那个欺凌者感到 自己是有影响力、很受欢迎的人。

这里的两个 make 都是使役动词,表示 “ 使 …… 处于状态;使 …… 成为 ” 。 结构为 make+sb./sth.+ 宾补( n./adj./v./-ing/-ed 等)

第一个 make 是 make+sb.+n. 结构,意为 “ 使某 人成为 ……” 。 e.g. We made Tom headmaster of our school. 第二个 make 是 make+sb.+do( 省略 to 形式 ) ,意 为 “ 让某人 …… 做 ……” 。 e.g. Our teacher makes us feel more confident.

注意:此类结构变被动必须还原 to 。 e.g. We are made to feel more confident.
