6 When Wilbur was 5 weeks old, he was sold to Fern’s Uncle Homer, who put Wilbur in a manure pile in the cellar of his barn, where there were sheep, lambs, goose, goslings, rat and other farm animals. Yet Wilbur felt lonely even though Fern visited him and sat close to him every day after school. The fact that he was meant to be killed on Christmas upset him. So he tried to escape until a VIP in his life appeared…… VIP! Who can it be?

7 Charlotte promised to save Wilbur from being killed and they became very good friends.

9 The end: Life in the barn was very good - night and day, winter and summer, spring and fall, dull days and bright days. It was the best place to be, thought Wilbur, this warm delicious cellar, with the garrulous geese, the changing seasons, the heat of the sun, the passage of swallows, the nearness of rats, the sameness of sheep, the love of spiders, the smell of manure, and the glory of everything. Wilbur never forgot Charlotte. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. She was in a class by herself. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both.

11 Tips: English learning depends much on reading. Literature is a necessary part of it. We benefit a lot from movies, but we will get more out of the original book. We will get far more if we form the habit of reading English Literature. Charlotte’s Web is a wonderful book to begin our trip to English literature. Yet it is just the beginning.
