Jackie Reid was 18 when she started work in 1953—when the National Health Service (NHS) was just five years old—and is believed to be the oldest nurse in Britain.
The diabetes(糖尿病)specialist had to retire at 65 but returned as a nurse within two weeks and still does up to four seven-and-a-half hour shifts(轮班)each week. Mrs Reid said: “Nursing is hard if you do it correctly but I love my job. Working for the NHS has been my life. I have no other hobbies because I have worked all my life. ”
Jackie has worked at a number of different hospitals—including one in Scotland. Her specialist field has been diabetes for the past 40 years. She retrained after her 12-year-old daughter Michelle developed the disease. She currently works at Southend Hospital, Essex. Over the last 60 years she has treated tens of thousands of patients.

It’s hard now because there’s a shortage of staff. ” Jackie has lived alone in Grays, Essex, since her husband died three years ago.
The couple have two daughters Michelle, 50, and Karen, 54. Jackie added: “My youngest daughter worries about me—she doesn’t think I should work as much as I do. 5.
(2011·山东高考) [2]If , then it is very possible that you are a textaholic. A textaholic can be defined as someone who is addicted to sending and receiving messages. The main symptoms are a strong desire to text messages, which takes precedence(优先)over everything else, and bad moods, low spirits and a lack of self-confidence if messages fail to come in. The root of the problem, as with many addictions, is the desire to escape from emotional difficulties such as stress, anxiety and
relationship problems relationship problems. Experts warn that text addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young. . . .
What do experts say about text addiction? (within 14 words) —————————————————————————— 【答案】It may become the most common form of addiction, especially among the young. 【点拨】此题是细节回答题, 原文提到“Experts warn that text addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young.
[3]According to Science Daily, a new study predicts that by the year 2, 100, many of today’s familiar climates will be replaced by climates unknown in today’s world. It is urgent that we reduce the risks of these far-reaching consequences for
the whole world. The planet itself has been showing signs of change the whole world. The planet itself has been showing signs of change. In 2004, a serious tsunami created by a major earthquake killed thousands in Sumatra and in 2008, thousands died in China because of another severe earthquake. Egypt was hit in 2009 with a major earthquake and Haiti was destroyed in 2010 by yet another massive earthquake.
What is the author’s purpose in using the examples of earthquakes in paragraph 3? (within 10 words) —————————————————————————— 【答案】To show major changes are taking place on the planet. The planet itself has been showing signs of change.
(2011·山东高考) [1]Do you spend over an hour each day texting messages to your friends? Do you frequently ignore work, study, and other activities to check your phone for messages? Are you anxious and restless if you are separated from your mobile phone? Do you hardly ever use your phone to talk any more, and do your thumbs hurt from texting too much?
[2]If , then it is very possible that you are a textaholic. . . . [3]So what can you do if you think you may be a textaholic? The key is to get your life. . .
How does the author introduce the topic of the text How does the author introduce the topic of the text? (no more than 5 words) _____________________________________________________ 【答案】By asking/raising questions.
The program started with one school delivering 30 bags of groceries. It has grown each year, and now involves 10 schools and several churches. Food on the 15th has delivered more than 12, 000 bags so far. Rosenthal’s goal is to expand Food on the 15th across the country and around the world.
Translate the underlined sentence in the last paragraph into Chinese. _____________________________________________________ 【答案】该活动的规模逐年扩大, 现在已有十所学校及好几座教堂加入进来。
