Background information A review of the opera Turandot Main characters (Para 3-4) Turandot---- Calaf---- a handsome prince Liu In the Forbidden City (Para 1-2) Director (Para 8) Zubin Mehta (Para 8) Sharon Sweet, Barbara Hendricks, Kristjan Johannsson (Para 8) a stubborn and cruel princess a young slave of Calaf’s father Setting Zhang Yimou Conductor Actors and Actresses The story takes on a classic love triangle. What are the key components of this amazing opera? The bringing together of these people from many countries, the music, and the grand setting.

Calaf falls in love with her at first sight and decides to marry her. (L22) Turandot becomes very angry at this turn. (L28) She seizes Calaf’s father and Liu and threatens Liu. (L31) Liu kills herself; Calaf successfully won Turandot’s love; Turandot falls in love with him and changes herself. He says that if she can guess his name, she doesn’t have to marry him. (L29) 3.
