Self-paced Learning Definition In self-paced learning, the content, learning sequence, pace of learning and possibly even the media are determined by the individual.

Why Is It So Good? 過來人的心得 1—托福iBT Speaking自學小組 Maggie Huang: 我覺得成立自學小組給了我很大的動力去準備、規劃教材以及積極去學習每個禮拜的東西。準備新托福是件很累人的事，尤其新的口說測試更是需要和人不斷練習，幸好有這一群朋友願意一起努力，並且在一學期之間持續不懈。讀英文最怕偷懶，我自己在學習的時候常常都會找藉口想偷懶，可是自學小組每個禮拜都要見面，而且還要交報告!因此很難有機會偷懶。另外，由於我們輪流都會擔任主持人，在準備當主持人的過程中，由於想要呈現給組員最適合的教材，我便常常去視聽圖書館的資料庫，尋找適合我們練習的語言學習館藏，本來單純只是想準備教材而已，但在搜尋的過程中，我還『順便』發現了許多好書，都是很適合增進自己的英文能力的，這是一個學期的自學小組帶來的額外好處。

過來人的心得 2—CNN自學小組 Clair Liao : 以前一直都覺得CNN很難，自己無法看懂它，所以雖然知道看點CNN對自己很有幫助，卻總不願自動去打開來看看。但自學了一學期，覺得CNN並不如自己想像中困難，而且在這學期中，我們從中吸收了許多新資訊，真的覺得很不錯。 在這學期中，有時候也會覺得自學小組是一種負擔，因為課業真的很忙，但我想這就是自學小組的好處吧。如果是個人自學，很容易便會將這件壓力比較小的事排在最後順位，因此往往自學計畫就中斷了。但自學小組有整體的約束力在，大家同心協力完成每一週的學習，不知不覺地，也完成了整學期的自學。

過來人的心得3-TOEIC自學小組 李偉銓：It’s so great to join the English study group. It really encourages me to study English hard. By practicing TOEIC test and Betty Azar’s grammar book, studying with the equipment of learning center, using Longman dictionary, and discussing the reading articles all in English, I think that my English communication skill has really improved. I want to suggest everyone who hasn’t joined English study group finding some friends to form a group. Because it’s a group, every one of us has the work of ourselves, and no one dare to be lazy in studying. That’s the difference between studying individually and studying together, and that’s also why I want to recommend it to everybody at NCU who would like to improve his/her English ability.

English Study Groups (1) Who: - 任何對英語自學的興趣與毅力 能維持10 weeks 的人； - 每2-4人即可成一小組 Why: It works!! When: 小組成員皆合適的時間；每週1~2小時 Where: 任何可以輕鬆進行英語小組討論 的地方；有電腦設備者尤佳。

English Study Groups (2) 各小組自訂自學主題，並自行設計syllabus 安排小組自學內容及meeting時間 小組meeting 10次(每次至少一小時) 各成員小組meeting 前至少自學一小時 每週撰寫 Weekly Report 每學期三次Checks，和諮詢老師面對面會談，以利了解各組自學進度及解決自學上的問題 Weekly Report Worksheet Weekly Report sample Check 記錄表

小組注意事項 Attendance : 全程參與，Weekly meeting及三次check全員到齊且不遲到早退 在Weekly Report 紀錄每週自學後的收穫、心得、所遇到的困難等。並可附上使用的worksheet, handout, quiz sheet, or PPT handouts, 每週準時繳交weekly report財金英語自學小組的平台。

【Background and Goals】: 詳述組成自學小組的動機，為什麼選這個自學主題及想要達成的目標。 【Learning Plans/Activities】：列出每次meeting事前、事中、事後小組需要做到什麼樣的事情才能達到學習目標。 【Sources of Materials】：請註明書籍、雜誌、電影、影集出版資訊，網路資源附上URL。每週的進度也需註明章節或是影集的season, episode 及主題。

【Job Distribution/ Potential Roles】：小組可以討論每次Meeting時每個成員 可能扮演的角色，例如：note taker, vocabulary finder, question designer, summarizer, coordinator (someone who encourages each member to talk and make transition from one speaker to another), and cultural difference finder。
