35 Unit9 Industry application of robot Part2 Welding robot The welding robot is an industrial robot engaged in welding. Industrial robots are a versatile, reproducible Manipulator with three or more programmable axes for industrial automation. In order to adapt to different uses, the mechanical interface of the robot's last axis is usually a connecting flange, which can be attached to a different tool or end effector. The welding robot is the industrial robot of which a welding tong or torch is in the end , so that it can be welded, cut or hot spray. With the development of electronic technology, computer technology, numerical control and robot technology。

35 Unit9 Industry application of robot Part2 Welding robot Since the beginning of the 1960s automatic welding robot began used for the production, its technology has become increasingly mature。 It has mainly the following advantages: 1) to stabilize and improve the quality of welding, welding quality can be reflected in the form of value; 2) to improve labor productivity; 3) to improve the labor intensity of workers, can work in a harmful environment; 4) Reduce requirements for workers' operating techniques; 5) to shorten the product replacement of the preparation cycle, reduce the corresponding equipment investment. Therefore, welding robots has been widely used.

35 Unit9 Industry application of robot Part2 Welding robot Welding robot mainly includes two parts of robot and welding equipment. The robot consists of the robot body and the control cabinet (hardware and software). Take arc welding as an example, the welding equipment consists of the welding power (including its control system), wire feeder, welding gun and other components. For intelligent robots it should also have a sensing system, such as laser or camera sensors and their control devices.

35 Unit9 Industry application of robot Part2 Welding robot In addition, if the workpiece in the entire welding process is without displacement, you can use the fixture to locate the workpiece on the table; this system is the most simple. However, in the actual production, more of the workpiece in the welding need to change position, so that the weld in a better position (posture) is welded. For this situation, the positioning machine and the robot can separately move, that is the robot welds again after the displacement machine changing position; and they can also be moving at the same time, the displacement machine is changing position while the robot is welding.

At this time the movement of the positioning machine and the movement of the robot are compound movement, so that the movement of the welding gun relative to the workpiece can meet the weld trajectory, and can meet the requirements of the welding speed and the welding gun’ posture. In fact, the shaft of the positioner has become part of the robot, and this welding robot system can be up to 7-20 axes, or more.
